Wells Fargo & Co. marked Smith & Wesson First Model Schofield top break single action revolver, .45 cal., barrel period reduced to 5”, blue finish, wood grips, #1894. This gun is in overall good to very good condition showing traces of original muted blue in protected areas with the balance of gun gone to a plum brown patina. The genuine correct “W.F. & COS. EX” and “1894” stamping on the right side of the barrel assembly is fully present, the action is very good, the bore should clean to very good and the two line patent address on the left side of the barrel is sharp. The grips are worn with scattered nicks and mars from carry and storage and the right grip has a crack from the bottom to the screw escutcheon while the left grip has a small crack at the top and at the bottom rear toe. These period-modified for Wells Fargo Schofields are extremely collectible and a favorite for not only the Wells Fargo and Smith & Wesson collectors but also sought after by the Old West aficionado.
