Weidner, Paul(us) - Loca praecipua Fidei Chrisrianae, collecta, & explicata.. .
[Bécs] Viennae Austriae, (1559. Raphael Hoffhalter). [16] + 411 + [19] p. First edition. Very interesting and rare judaica, a valuable piece of the early Viennese printing. The first work of Paulus Weidner (cca. 1525-1585) Jewish doctor, the rector of the Vienna University. Weidner was born in Udine on the name of Asher Judah benn Nathan Ashkenazi. After much struggling deliberation, he got christened in Vienna in 1558. Following it he wrote this work, in which he wished to convince his fellow Jews of the Christian truth by connecting the main tenets of Christianity with the Jewish beliefs. The text of the title is in ornate woodcut frame, the second page has a beautiful full page wooden engraving. On the back of the fourth page a full page woodcut crown coat-of-arms with a two-headed eagle, on the back of the last page a decorative, large size printers symbol. The first and the last page of the volume is slightly stained. Contemporary blind-stamped leather binding, ribbed spine, contemporary inscribed paper label glued on the spine. Minor damages on the binding, the cloth ribbons sealing the binding are missing. Very rare book.
