A mid-19th century Victorian-era ceramic inset sink basin manufactured by Wedgwood. The circular basin is constructed of pearlware, a white earthenware body characterized by a slightly bluish glaze. The interior features a faint blue-gray marbleized or shredded decorative pattern. Designed for inset mounting, the basin has a wide, flat rim. The interior includes an overflow grate with eight circular perforations in a decorative arrangement and a central drain hole with original metal hardware. The exterior displays a protruding pipe fitting encased in a decorative fluted, shell-form shroud. The unglazed base is incised with the marks WEDGWOOD and PEARL above the letter A. Provenance includes a circular sticker for the Rubin Collection and a label indicating the piece was exhibited at the Wedgwood 250 exhibition at the DAR Museum in Washington, DC in 2009.
