Wedgwood Hand-Painted Creamware Dessert Basket
The item is a Wedgwood porcelain basket, likely creamware or pearlware, dating to the late 18th or early 19th century. The boat-shaped (navette) body features a high, central strap handle, characteristic of dessert or chestnut baskets of the period. The white glazed ceramic body is decorated with hand-painted overglaze enamel motifs in a palette of rusty orange/sanguine and deep magenta/purple. The decoration forms continuous borders of stylized floral and foliate elements around the exterior rim and sides, with larger, detailed floral sprays visible inside the basin. The handle is detailed with vertical magenta lines. The underside of the foot rim bears an impressed "WEDGWOOD" mark, along with handwritten red inventory markings "E.6119" and "A". A circular sticker identifies the piece as part of the "RUBIN COLLECTION."
