Wedgwood commemorative plate in cream-colored earthenware, featuring a red transfer-printed scene. The central well depicts the naval engagement between the USS Constitution and HMS Java on December 29, 1812, titled in a banner below the ships. The wide rim is decorated with a spread-winged American eagle clutching an olive branch and arrows at the top, with the remainder of the rim filled with concentric rows of small five-pointed stars. The edge is finished with a printed rope-twist border. The reverse features several printed marks in red. A central circular mark containing a profile bust reads THE WEDGWOOD COLLECTORS SOCIETY. To the left is a printed mark reading of ETRURIA, WEDGWOOD, MADE IN ENGLAND, BARLASTON, with a small letter F printed to the left of the country of origin. A printed mark to the right reads ENGRAVED BY THE WEDGWOOD STUDIOS surrounding a diamond logo with crossed anchors. A lengthy historical description of the battle is printed across the center of the underside, noting it was compiled from official reports of Commodore Bainbridge U.S.N. and Lieutenant Chads R.N. A small printed IV appears near the outer rim on the reverse.
