Weapons for Liberty-Boy Scouts of America (Lot of 2) 30" x 20" Artist: J.C. Leyendecker. This poster is highly prized by collectors of World War I posters, and by collectors of Boy Scouts of America lore. There's no question as to why this poster has gained so much desirability; the artistic rendering and image is amazing. Leyendecker was a master of drawing young men; his "Arrow Collar Man" was the antithesis to the "Gibson Girl," and became one of the most successful advertising images in history. Leyendecker's technique is unmistakable: he often used detailed highlights to offset shadow which gave his work a unique look. Some of his original drawings almost look incomplete because he would leave the background unpainted so it would show through and represent the brightest highlights. This poster is only second to Leyendecker's "Order Coal Now" poster, which is held by many to be the most artistic and beautiful of the WWI posters. This poster depicts a boy scout kneeling below Liberty herself handing her a large sword with the boy scout motto "Be Prepared" on the blade. The rendering makes it appear that this is a mosaic, the tesserae mimic the fantastic mosaic seen at the Roman port of Ostia. A fantastic image! Do not let this pass you by! <r<r Condition-Poster 1-Poor; bottom half is severely torn and damaged, right edge is missing pieces, graphic and colors are still fantastic but the tears have marred the poster. <r<r Poster 2-Fine; one major tear on top edge, edges show normal wear from storage/rolling.
