For a Value Back to use this signature combination, the issuing bank must have received its charter during this narrow window and then have survived long enough under its original title to have issued Value Backs after, in the case of this bank, September of 1917. Since Value Backs were issued only until 1922, it is easy to see why few would exist with this signature combination, as, for example, this institution's total Value Back emission totaled only 813 sheets. Fewer than 10 Fr. 576a notes from all banks combined are known to exist today, making this item, which realized $2860 in its last auction outing over ten years ago, an unheralded rarity.
