A vintage pen and ink illustration by Hall, executed for the story The Golden Totem by Barnett Willoughby, published December 10, 1944 as the tenth installment of its serialized appearance. This dramatic mid-century drawing depicts an intense conversation between two figures seated on a couch, the composition tightly framed to convey emotional intimacy and suspense. Strong linear hatching and subtle greenish-blue shading accentuate the interior space, evoking a noir-like atmosphere consistent with 1940s period illustration. Though unsigned on the visible surface, the artwork is part of a cohesive series attributed to Hall, with verso documentation noting publication details and narrative context: "Now, now, dear lady, calm yourself," Greer's voice soothed (Page 290). Presented in a simple black frame with archival matting.
