The painting needs cleaning and slight conservation. An examination report by noted conservator who works for major west coast museums, James R. Druseck states, “That the media is all the same, that it appears most likely to be watercolor, and that solubilitytests discount the printing inks.” The image measures 18” x 28.5” showing 2 cowboys who just buried their amigo with his sad dog standing by his grave marker and is similar to a work by Richard Lorenz entitled “TheLast Farewell” which sold recently at Christie’s for over $300,000. Artists often did more than one painting on the same subject or used different medias and this also may have been a study in watercolorbefore the oil also which is a common practice among artists.
