His nephew writes in great detail regarding the management of land owned by Washington and the collections of rents in particular. In part: "...I promised Major Harrison when I saw him last (as he appeared anxious to sell his land) to inform him (by letter) of your arrival at Mount Vernon...Shou'd he happen to be at Fauquier quarterly court where he is often seen, or at the next Loudon court which is on Monday night, I shall undoubtedly see him. I have had uncommon good success among the tenants of this county the last fall in the collection way...I shall meet you at Mt. Vernon with what money I have...". The letter is docketed on the verso in Washington's hand and reads, "From Mr. Robert Lewis 26th Mar. 1793". Splits running the length of central vertical folds on both leaves.
