Binding has considerable wear and some paper loss. Paper has moderate toning. Frontispiece and member certificate have corner pieces missing. Overall good condition. <BR><BR>President George Washington's "Farewell Address to His Countrymen" was issued as a public letter on September 17, 1796. Written with help from Alexander Hamilton, the address warns against the evils of partisanship at home and intervention abroad. This publication including the address and the U.S. Constitution was issued to members of the Washington Benevolent Society. This copy, dated January 1, 1812, admitted Josiah Goodhue of Chester, Vermont, into the chapter located in Windsor County, by the certification of William Henry, Secretary.
