(Washington Monument) Broadside, 1p, nd, 12"X16", interesting content re the building of the Washington Monument. Signed in print by George Watterson (1783-1854), who began the movement to build this famous monument in 1833. Reads in part, "TO THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES. The great work has commenced. The corner-stone of the Washington National Monument has been laid...a beautiful site...the Monument, when erected, may be seen from the Chesapeake bay...has been granted by Congress...The funds, originally collected and judiciously invested...now amount to $80,000...The magnificent structure, dedicated to public and private virtue...for the Great Father of his Country...The design embraces...a grand circular colonnaded building 250 feet in diameter...surrounded by 30 columns of massive proportions..."
