Washington & Jefferson DS
"WINNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED AFTER THE AUCTION ENDS BY THE AUCTIONEER ONCE ALL BIDS HAVE BEEN PROCESSED TO DETERMINE THE WINNER FOR EACH LOT."
Three language ship's papers signed by George Washington as President and countersigned by Thomas Jefferson as Secretary of State. Dated 4 January 1794, this partly printed document translated in French, English and Dutch authorizes the ''Brig Betsy'' to launch from the port of Philadelphia and sail to Martinique, ''Laden with flour, port, beef, porter [beer], candles, lard soap, vinegar and cheese.'' Signed ''G Washington'' and ''Th Jefferson'' at document's conclusion. Also notarized by Clement Biddle. Single-page measures 12.75'' x 15.75''. With two fine white paper seals. Washington’s large, four-inch signature is bold and fine, as is Jefferson’s. Close left and right blank borders do not affect text or signatures. Overall in near fine condition, rarely encountered so well-preserved.
