<Our item number 120771><B>Washington, George - Treaty Celebration At Newburgh, April 19, 1783.</B> Oil on canvas titled &#34;The Blessing of Freedom,&#34; by Walter Beech Humphrey, 27½&#34; x 38&#34;, c. 1920s. The artist&#39;s rendering of General George Washington and some of his men giving thanks for the news of the signing of a general treaty of peace at Paris, signalling the cessation of hostilities between Great Britain and the United States. The Reverend Mr. Gano is shown leading the men in prayer. <BR><BR>There are three small plaques in the lower portion of the frame. One says: &#34;April 19, 1783./ Washington At Newburgh / Peace Treaty Celebration / Prayer By Chaplain John Gano.&#34; The second plaque reads: &#34;The Blessings of Freedom / Walter Beech Humphrey / 1892-1966,&#34; and the third plaque notes: &#34;8th Anniversary / Battles of / Lexington and Concord.&#34; <BR><BR>Very Good; minor restoration.
