Bill of Sale for Purchase of Slaves. "Received at Jefferson, Texas this tenth day of April A.D. 1864 of S. Carter agent of Atkinson and Chappelle of Washington County, Texas. Ten thousand dollars in full payment for the following described Negroes, (Big?) Ann Negro Mom was named Pheby Ann Aged thirty-two years dark complexion about two-feet 8 inches high also his three children named Boy Frank dark complexion aged eight years. Girl Hannah Black, aged five years, Boy Edward Black aged three years all of whom are slaves for life. The title to the said Negroes, I warrant and defend and guarantee them to be sound in body and minds. Witnessed and signed "William O'Bannon".
