"Small cylindrical pouches such as this one were woven in part to serve as receptacles for the ritual harvests of a large variety of native roots, including cous, camas, bitterroot and others." Typical images on these firm but flexible baskets include animals, birds, and human figures. Sally bags with skeletal human figures are the best-known examples of this distinctive basketry form.

Provenance
Merrill Domas, Old Chatham, New York.

Impo
