Scarce Wartime Commercial Police C96 Broomhandle Semi-Automatic Pistol, #313440, 7.63mm (.30 Mauser), rare 3-7/8'' barrel with Luger front sight blade, late adjustable rear sight marked ''50-1000'', blue finish, 12-groove walnut stock with lanyard ring in butt, with new safety ''NS'' marking on rear of hammer. Pistol shows faint 1920 re-build date markings to left side of upper receiver, with Imperial and Oberndorf proofmarks, as well as ''NP'' (nitro-proof) markings. A near identical example is pictured at the top of page 203 of the Belford & Dunlap book, ''The Mauser Self-Loading Pistol'', c. 1969. It is common belief that these were reworked for the police in the post-WWI era, and the holster that accompanies the pistol is very similar to the military and police Bolo holster pictured at the bottom of page 231 in the ''System Mauser'' book, by Breathed & Schroeder. Condition is fine to near excellent as 1920s overhauled, retaining approx. 92% blue with scuffs, scr!
atches, and light high edgewear. Grips show some pressure dings and minor scuffs but otherwise very good. Action is crisp, bore is fine to near excellent with only slight frosting in the grooves. A seldom seen and very difficult to obtain variation of the Broomhandle pistol. Holster is in good condition being well oiled with some thinning at the edges and wear at front sight area. Est.: $3,000-$4,000.
