Warren G. Harding Typed Letter Signed
Warren G. Harding Typed Letter Signed as Senator “W. G. Harding”. Two pages, 8” x 10.5”, on United States Senate Committee on the Philippines letterhead, Washington, October 4 1919, to William W. Harder, Marion, Ohio. Warren G. Harding (1865-1923) declines an invitation to make an address at an unspecified event in Marion, Ohio. Harding assures Mr. Harder that “the situation has not in any way altered here since I last wrote to you and I do not think there is the slightest probability of my getting to Ohio during the month of October.” One wonders what pressing Senate business was detaining Harding, who missed more than two-thirds of the roll-call votes, among them was the vote to send the 19th Amendment (women's Suffrage) to the states for ratification. His lack of zeal did not prevent him from succeeding to the office of President a scant two years later. The letter is in near fine condition with a bold Harding signature. From the collection of Henry E. Luhrs.

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
