Warren G. Harding Typed Letter Signed as Senator “W. G. Harding”. One page, 8” x 10.25”, on United States Senate letterhead, Washington, February 20, 1919, to Dr. William F. Pierce, Gambier, Ohio. Harding writes in full: “The petition relating to the League of Nations, signed by yourself and members of your faculty is before me. Please know that I am studying this matter with the best conscience, the best intelligence, and the highest regard for our common good that I can command.” As senator, Harding was strongly opposed to President Wilson's proposal to create a League of Nations claiming it made a mockery of American democracy. Ex.
