War of 1812 Virginia Calvary Regiment Field Promotion

August 10th, 1812-Dated War of 1812 Period, Manuscript Document, being a Field Promotion, Signed on one side by Colonel Dudley Evans and the other by William N. Jarrett, as Captain, Very Fine.

This rare, original Document, measures 4” x 5” and is dated 1812, by Captain William N. Jarrett, of the Cavalry Company from Monongalia Co., Virginia, Third Regiment with a recommendation for Marmaduke Evans to be “Cornet” in the company. It is Signed on one side by Colonel Dudley Evans of the 76th Regiment on August 12th, and the other by William N. Jarrett as Captain. A roster search online of that regiment shows that Marmaduke indeed received his Field Promotion recommendation commission. This piece is well written and easily readable in brown ink on very clean, period laid paper. A rare War of 1812 Virginia Calvary Regiment Field Promotion recommendation that was fulfilled.
Col. Evans distinguished himself in civil and military life; he was a member of the House of Delegates and the General Assembly of VA from 1803 to 1816. He was a Colonel in the "Western Virginia Brigade" under General William Henry Harrison in the War of 1812.
