This handsome English Brass Barrel Flintlock Blunderbuss by TWIGG has a 14" octagon-to-round-to-cannon muzzle brass barrel struck with 2 Birmingham Proofs and the barrel maker's mark (see photos), engraved "LONDON" on the top flat of breech. The stepped lock is maker signed, "TWIGG" with high quality roller frizzen spring. All brass furniture includes a trigger guard with an acorn finial and engraved butt plate tang. Horn tipped wood ram rod. The stock is solid with a few minor stress cracks, a mended stress crack on the right side of the fore-end near muzzle, a filled section next to the right side of the barrel tang, scratches and dings from years of service. This Blunderbuss is in its original flintlock configuration and is in good mechanical working order. 29" in overall length. These weapons were perfect for Coach defense and were the weapon of choice on the ships of the day because of their size (close quarter fighting) and being able to fire just about anything one could load it with, glass, rocks, nails and lead shot were the most effective.
