War axe circa 1500 to 1650, head measures approx. 6” from blade to back, by 5-1/4” from end to end of metal surface. The blade shows maker or armorer’s stamp “IS” and shows a Germanic form with flattened hammer back. The ax is mounted on a period shaft with flattened sides. The total measures 42”, the shaft measures approx. 1-3/4” across the flat. The head shows some battle marks, minor pitting and erosion, but generally good for its age. The shaft is a darkened hardwood and is also good with some slight worming, small losses, chips, mars, etc., but is definitely genuine to the axe. There is a Museum of New York cartouche. Little John's will pay for packing and materials. Buyer pays actual costs of shipping and insurance. All International purchases will be sent to an exporter for shipment to foreign countries.
