Rare and important 18th Century Tianhuang stone carved seal; signed Wang Ming Sheng (1722-1797); rectangular form surmounted by chilong in relief; incised script mark on sides; of deep translucent honey tone; H: 5 cm, W: 5 cm, 238 grams; Provenance: A 1989 Hong Kong collection of a gentleman

Lot Notes: The seal can be dated to the 36th year of Emperor Qianlong. It was a gift given to him by Emperor Qianlong signifying his top academic standing in the imperial examination that was used to select Xiu Cai scholars. In lieu of a degree, he was given this stone seal.
