Walther AC43 Mod G41 .8 mm Mauser cal bolt action auto loading full wood Military Rifle w/22 bbl [ Nazi Marked , w/leather sling, blue finish , good wood, w/cleaning rod , Another Very Rare, ill fated attempt at an autoloading rifle for the German army in WWII , but it fared better than the Mauser. Hitler specified that the new design could not tap gas from the barrel, and had to have a "manual over-ride" in case the auto loading failed . Walther produced the G41 (W) in answer. Like the Mauser 41(M) , the Walther uses the "Bang" system to tap gas from the end of the barrel , which then impinges an annular ring on the barrel, driving it backwards into an operating rod which in turn forces the action backwards. Unlike Mauser, Walther ignored Hitler's demand for a seperate bolt, so there was no bolt handle for cocking the rifle initially . This made the rifle, while still long and heavy , more wieldy than the Mauser 41(M). However, it was still complicated machining ill suited to wartime production, and the Mauser, the rifle was prone to fouling , and the annular ring changed the barrel harmonics, impairing accuracy. Overall, the design was less of a failure than the Mauser G41 (M), and when the Mauser stopped production, the Walther continued , being known only as the G41. According to "Hitler's Garands", about 117,000 G41's were produced and like the Mausers, many were lost on the Eastern front. However, components of the design lived on in the Walther "G43" which was arguably the best semi-automatic infantry rifle to come out of WWII . This piece is in excellent condition, all original, w/all matching numbers. However, at some point, someone tried to whittle down the pistol grip thickness, and the stock has been duffel cut under the front band. This does not affect function and is not visible . The stock markings are worn, but visible and match . The rifle has it's correct plastic handguard. An extremely rare piece and would be very challenging to upgrade ] Ser # 1083
