English poet, short story writer and novelist (1873–1956) who is best remembered for his works for children, the poem The Listeners, and for subtle psychological horror stories like 'Seaton's Aunt' and 'All Hallows.' Handwritten poem by Walter de la Mare entitled "Missell Thrush," penned on a pink 7.25 x 4.5 album page, signed at the top by the poet, "Walter de la Mare, with all good wishes, August 1952." The poem begins: "When from the brittle ice the fields, / Begin to spring with green, / Then sits the storm-cock tree-top high, / And shrills the blasts between." The left side of the page bears four additional unknown signatures. In fine condition, with a vertical fold passing through the poem and signature.
