Walter Winchell Letter Signed "Walter Winchell" on New York Mirror Letterhead. One Page, November 2, 1956; 10 3/4" x 8 1/2".

Letter written to Mr. Paul C. Smith, President of Crowell-Collier Publishing Company.

Winchell writes, in part:

"I finally got around to seeing the cover piece Al Dann brought to the rehearsal hall. I guess it's the nicest piece I ever had written about me... now I am not sure that I like nice pieces... What I enjoyed about the whole thing was seeing Peter Maas, a kid, and Gene Cook, who thinks he isn't a kid, get knocked out trying to keep up with Kid Winchell... Don't forget I am 59. But I only feel 58."

Winchell became notorious for his attempts to destroy the careers of his political and personal enemies as his own career progressed, especially after World War II. Favorite tactics were allegations of having ties to Communist organizations and accusations of sexual impropriety.
