American aviator who achieved fame as the pilot of the Curtiss NC flying boat "NC-4," the first aircraft to make a transatlantic flight in 1919. Unusual 4.25 x 3 swatch of fabric from the NC-4, signed in fountain pen, “Walter Hinton.” Typed on the swatch is the sentiment, in part: “From Walter Hinton to his friend, Walter R. Cosdon. A piece of the original fabric taken from a wing of the NC-4 the first plane to fly across the Atlantic.” In fine condition, with light wrinkling and staple holes at the top edge. Accompanied by a 75th anniversary commemorative cover of the first air crossing of the Atlantic Ocean.
