American golfer (1892–1969) who won eleven professional majors, a record surpassed only by Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus. Over the course of his career, he won two U.S. Open titles, and, in 1922, became the first American to win the British Open, which he would win a total of four times. TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, February 3, 1956. Letter to a collector. In part: “Please forgive this belated answer to your most interesting letter. I have been so busy for the last several years writing my book ‘The Walter Hagen Story’ that I have found little time to answer the many requests which I receive.” In fine condition, with intersecting mailing folds, and a touch of mild toning.
