Prussian-born conductor and composer (1862–1950) who was the longtime leader of the New York Symphony Orchestra. His 1896 opera The Scarlet Letter, adapted from the eponymous novel, was evidently the first such venture based on a work by Hawthorne. Original vintage 4.25 x 6.5 cabinet photo by Falle of New York, signed twice in fountain pen. In fine condition, with light spreading and feathering to end of signature at top, and some light edge toning, slightly extending into top right corner. Provenance: The Barry Hoffman Collection.
