Walt Kelly - Original Art for Pogo Sunday Brunch, page 87, "A Boodle of Boon" (Simon & Schuster, 1959). Quirky, charming, original, unforgettable... these are just a few of the adjectives one could use in describing Walt Kelly's masterwork, Pogo. First appearing in the The New York Star in 1948, an unassuming little possum and all his swamp-dwelling friends soon captured the hearts and minds of a nation. A deft mix of whimsy and acute political insight propelled Pogo to the "A" list of syndicated comic strips, and soon Pogo was a true phenomenon, appearing in books, toys, games, and even a TV special animated by the legendary Chuck Jones. This page, featuring a poem written in Kelly's inimitable nonsense style, appeared in one of the many book collections to feature his work. Measuring approximately 11.5" x 14.5" overall, the piece is in excellent condition, with only a few glue/tape stains at the edges, which do not affect the art in any way. Featuring Albert Alligator and Churchy LaFemme, this piece is certain to delight any past or present denizen of the Okeefenokee Swamp.
