DS, signed “Walter E. Disney,” three pages, 8.5 x 13, May 21, 1956. Document entitled “Application for Permission to Transfer Securities in Escrow.” In part: “The application of Walter E. Disney, Diane Disney Miller, Sharon Mae Disney, and Walter E. Disney as Custodian for Christopher Miller, a minor…respectfully shows that on November 27, 1953, the above corporation changed its name from Walt Disney, Incorporated to WED Enterprises, Inc….Applicants desire to transfer the following said number of shares to Walter E. Disney and William H. D. Cottrell, as Voting Trustees of shares of WED Enterprises, Inc.” Signed twice at the conclusion of the second page, “Walter E. Disney,” and also signed by Diane Disney Miller and Sharon Mae Disney. Walt Disney has again signed the third page, along with Cottrell. In fine condition, with a diagonal crease to the last page, two filing punch holes at the top of each page, and scattered carbon soiling.

Walt Disney Enterprises Inc. was founded in December 1952 and later renamed WED Enterprises. The private company’s primary purpose was to help design and build the storytelling environment that would become Disneyland. The separate corporate entity was partly the result of disagreement of those in the Disney camp over the amount of land needed to pull off such an endeavor, not to mention the cost. The document reflects the Disney family’s participation in—and profitability from—the endeavor. Diane and Sharon were Walt’s two daughters, and Christopher was (at the time) his only grandson. An incredible, thrice-signed piece of Disneyana!
