DS, two pages, 8.5 x 11, no date. Minutes of the first meeting of the Board of Directors of Walt Disney Enterprises Inc. Minutes state in part: “The first meeting was held…at 11:00 o’clock A.M. on Tuesday, February 17, 1953. Upon roll call it was ascertained that all of the directors named in the Articles of Incorporation, to-wit: Walt Disney, Loyd Wright, and Dudley K. Wright were present. By agreement of all present, Walt Disney acted as Chairman of the meeting and Loyd Wright acted as Secretary…The Secretary then presented a form of By-Laws which were considered and discussed.” Signed in fountain pen on the second page by Disney as chairman, and signed again by Disney at the bottom of the page approving the minutes, and also signed by Loyd Wright and Dudley K. Wright. Three rectangular punch holes to left edge of both pages, mild toning to edges of second page, with a heavier strip of toning to left side of first page, otherwise fine condition.

Disney founded Walt Disney Enterprises Inc., later renamed WED Enterprises, in December 1952. The purpose of the private company was simple: to help design and build the storytelling environment that would become Disneyland. The separate corporate entity was, in part, the result of disagreement of those in the Walt Disney Productions camp over the amount of land needed to pull off such an endeavor, not to mention the cost. Two months later, the newly created company’s Board of Directors held their first meeting to get the ball rolling, the details of that meeting are preserved in the pages offered here. This document marked a refocusing of Disney’s attention and is, clearly, the very foundation on which Disneyland was constructed. A historic part of the Disney legacy! Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
