Significant personal check, 8.5 x 2.75, filled out in type and signed by Disney, "Walter E. Disney," payable to Walt Disney—Special Account for $600, November 16, 1966. Impressively double-matted and framed with a portrait and portrayals of several iconic Disney characters to an overall size of 16 x 22. In fine condition. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Phil Sears Collectibles and a detailed 2010 letter discussing the history of the check, in part: "The check is notable in that one month after the check was signed Walt Disney passed away. This makes the check one of the last to be signed by Walt Disney; as of this writing I have not seen one of a later date. On November 7, 1966, Walt Disney entered Saint Joseph Hospital—across the street from the Disney Studio—and a cancerous lung was removed. He remained in the hospital two weeks, being released on November 21. During his hospitalization Walt's secretary Tommie Wilck shuttled back and forth from the studio with the most important paperwork. This is how the check came to be signed while Walt Disney was in the hospital. Just over a week after being released, Walt's condition deteriorated and he was re-admitted to the hospital on November 30th. He never recovered, and passed away at the hospital on December 15th."
