Wallins Creek, KY - $5 1902 Plain Back Fr. 609 The Wallins NB Ch. # (S)12202
This is the only large note known from this one bank community, a hamlet so small and obscure (it's just down the road from Black Snake) and in such a hardscrabble county that one questions just what the need for a local banking facility could have been. Chartered in 1922, this bank hung on until early 1930 when the onset of the Depression mercifully put it out of its suffering. This was one of the most hotly contested notes in the Martin sale, where it realized $12,650 after a heated floor battle. It remains unique today, as it was four years ago, and we see no reason why this pen signed Fine+ example will not realize a record price for a Kentucky Blue seal once again this evening.
