Wall bracket candlesticks, a pair of porcelain and gilded bronze, second half of the 19th century, height 42 cm, width 25 cm, origin: These exclusive objects originate from the Tzar's famous winter palace in St Petersburg. In connection to the Russian revolution 1917, a general close to the Tzar realized that all the beautiful items decorating the winterpalace, most likely would be destroyed or scattered. He therefor systematically began collecting items and leaving them with his mistress. When the general was killed in battle, all his property was left to the mistress, including the valuable collection. Toward the end of her life, she met a priest so fascinated with her collection that he offered to buy it from her. To be able to afford buying the collection, the priest embezzled money from the church in Lithuania, which he represented. After having gathered, in this way, the money that he needed, he came into association with an antique dealer who's own greed resulted in his killing the priest and stealing the collection from him. However, the law eventually caught up with the antique dealer and he was sent to prison, where he remains, for life. The Lithuanian government has since sold the collection little by little, with the help of legal representatives. These object, that we now proudly present, have been purchased and imported by a Swedish collector. 15.000-20.000
