Confederate military officer and politician (1818–1902) who replaced J. E. B. Stuart as Lee’s Chief of Cavalry following Stuart’s death on the battlefield. Hampton later served as governor and senator from South Carolina. Scarce original 4.25 x 6.5 cabinet photo of Hampton in profile, signed in the lower border in black ink, “Wade Hampton So, Ca.” In fine condition, with just a few scattered light surface marks. An exceptionally handsome and crystal-clear example.
