Lot of 4. Three issued and one unissued certificate. Four different Wyoming mining stocks operating at Encampment, Wyoming. 1) Investors Mining and Prospecting Company: Incorporated in Wyoming in 1904. Cert. #179, issued for 200 shares at Encampment in 1907. Three mining vignettes. U/C. Black and green on crème. Issued to E.I. Balcom, signed by A. Slothowen as president and B. Berggins as secretary. The company’s mine office was at Rambler, Carbon County. Held 8 claims, partly patented, 84 acres, in the Battle Lake district with a 110’ shaft. The company was idle by 1908 according to the Copper Handbook. VF. 2) Rambler Mining Company: Inc. in Wyoming in 1901. Cert. #491, issued at Encampment for 1,500 shares in 1901 to Dr. E.I. Balcom. Signed by B.E. Burgess as vice-president and W.J. Wernle as secretary. Allegorical female holding a large flag and shield and an eagle vignette at top left. Two revenue stamps top left. The company operated at Rambler, Carbon County. By 1908, the company lost their lands by failure to do assessment work. Tiny fold split and extra creasing down the middle and top right corner. VG+. 3) Standard Copper Mining Company: Inc. in Wyoming in 1903. Cert. #624, issued in 1908 to Francis H. Steel. Signed by G.P. Waldorf as president and J.W. Spencer as secretary. Encampment, Wyoming printed on the masthead. Black and gold on crème. Three mining vignettes. 11” x 8.25”. Not cancelU/Cany held 15 claims, including the Cothern group, and the Susquehanna group, ½ mile east of the It may mine. Assays showed up to 18% copper and $2 gold per ton, with small silver value. EF. 4) Mammoth Copper Mining Company: Unissued 1XXX. Black and green on crème. Large oval mining vignette. Large piece missing from the bottom border. Mines located in Battle Lake District printed on the certificate. Copper was found at Grand Encampment in 1897 and the camp peaked in 1908. The population peaked at 2,000 but by 1911 had dwindled to 200. Other towns in the district including Battle, Elwood and Rambler then faded from existence (wyomingtalesandtrails.com website).
