Three different copper mining stock certificates from companies operating at Encampment, Wyoming. 1) Northwestern Copper Mining Company: Incorporated in Wyoming. Cert. #136, issued in 1902 for 1,000 shares to Wm. E. Meffley. Signed by Chas. R. Courtney as president and F.E. Brown as secretary. Eagle vignette. 10” x 8”. Black on crème. U/C. Principal place of business was at Encampment, Wyoming. The company operated until 1927 when it’s charter was revoked. Fold split and slight browning. Rees Printing Co. VG+. 2) The Newton Copper Mining Company: Incorporated in Wyoming. Cert. #278, issued in 1902 for 1,000 shares to John H. Stoddard. Signed by J.M. Newton as president and H.J. Nading as secretary. Oval mining vignette. Black and gold on crème. 10” x 8”. UncancelU/Cnter noted. The company’s property was near Elwood, 7 miles from Encampment. The property was said to have a 12’ vein of copper ore, opened by a 125’ shaft (1908 Copper Handbook). VF. 3) Copper Glance Mining and Milling Company: Incorporated in Wyoming. Cert. #594, issued to Frederick W. Henke for 2,000 shares in 1902. Black and gold on crème. No printer noted. Oval vignette of miners working underground top left. U/C. TheU/Cntrolled properties at Cashin, Montrose County, Colorado and Encampment, Wyoming. By 1908, they had lost Colorado lands thru non-payment and Wyoming properties through failure to do assessment work. VF.
