VMF-124 Corsair. 1943. Size: 38. Contract tag is missing. Painted on back of jacket with oil base paint - yellow oval with white star and red center with front view in the center of a skull with F4U Corsair bent wings on either side. This whole insignia is for VMF-124, a Marine F4U fighter squadron in the Pacific during WWII who was known as the "Whistling Death". It was the first Marine Corps squadron to be based off of an aircraft carrier, the USS Essex, and participated in the battles for Guadalcanal, Lingayen Gulf, Iwo Jima and Okinawa.
