This is an excellent example of a 1943 production Colt Model 1911A1 pistol. The matching slide is the mid-war pattern that is marked on the left side with the two line, two block Colt patent / address markings along with the Rampant Colt in the middle of the markings with the "P" proof on top of the slide in front of the rear sight. The right side of the frame is marked "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" over the serial number, the front end is marked "M1911A1 US ARMY" and the crossed cannon marking is behind the grip. The left side of the frame is stamped "G.H.D." with a "P" proof next to the magazine release. The left front of the trigger guard bow is marked with a "1" over the triangle "VP" proof and the right side is marked "48". It has the earlier wide Colt hammer, checkered arched mainspring housing, slide stop and thumb safety. It is fitted with Colt brown plastic checkered grips with the reinforcing rib inside each grip with a single mold number stamped in the middle. It is complete with one blued magazine with the letter "S" on the front lip, a reproduction Colt shipping box with the factory information on the front with the serial number of the pistol marked in pencil.
