WWII Nazi Model K98 Claw Mount Bolt Action Rifle with Scope
This is a copy of a mid to late WWII K98 claw mount sniper rifle. These rifles were originally produced from late 1943 to late 1944 using both Mauser and Steyr produced rifles. (It is unclear what this rifle is as the base obscures the chamber marking.) These rifles used the WWI style scope mounting system of double claw bases soldered to the top of the front and rear receiver ring (screwed in the rear also) with a push button release on the back of the rear base with a single "claw" on each mount. The receiver ring is unmarked and the left side receiver wall is marked "Mod.98". The left rear of the barrel is marked with a Nazi firing proof and the serial number, and around the breech is marked "avk Am eagle/13 proof" and an unrecognizable marking. The front scope base and ring are numbered to the gun. All visible numbers match (partial and full). The Gerard marked scope is marked on the left side "B3X / Dr WALTER GERARD / Charlottenburg / Gew 2606e". The top of the adjuster is marked "GERARD" and it is graduated from 1 to 9 and has a cross reticule. The rifle has the late war stamped trigger guard and front barrel band and milled floor plate and rear barrel band. The rifle has the standard late war laminated stock and handguard and it is fitted with a smooth cupped buttplate marked with the letter "C" on the bottom. Complete with a cleaning rod and tan cross hatch leather sling.
BBL: 24 inch round
Stock: laminated
Gauge: 8 mm
Finish: blue
Grips:
Serial Number: 1203h
Condition: Near mint as custom made with 98% restored blue finish remaining. There is some minor pitting under the finish on the forward portion of the barrel and some thinning on the trigger guard. The stock remains fine with a couple of small dings on the buttstock and light handling marks overall. The scope is very good with clear optics. The sling is excellent. The markings are crisp and the action is excellent.
