WWII Nazi Gustloff K98 Bolt Action Sniper Rifle with Short Rail Type Scope Mount
This is an example of a late war production K98 rifle as manufactured by the Gustloff factory. The rifle was subsequently fitted with a Carl Zeiss scope mounted on a short rail system on the left side of the receiver, numbered to the gun The top of the receiver is marked with the "eagle/749" over "bcd" the wartime code for the Gustloff Werke at Weimar and "4" for the year of manufacture. The right side is marked with the number "1" and two Nazi proof marks. The left rear portion of the barrel is marked with the Nazi firing proof, the serial number and an "eagle/748" proof mark. The rifle has a stamped middle barrel band and milled front band, floor plate and trigger guard. Hooded front sight and tangent rear sight graduated to 200 meters. The stock and handguard are the correct "bcd" produced laminated wartime versions and the stock has the correct single "C" proof and Waffenamt on the lower stock area. All visible numbers match.
BBL: 23 inch round
Stock: laminated
Gauge: 8 mm
Finish: blue
Grips:
Serial Number: 362m
Condition: Very finet. The rifle retains 85% of the original blue finish with some thinning on the barrel and barrel bands. The extractor has a smooth plum patina. With the exception of a crudely carved "N" on the right side of the forearm, the stock is very fine with a few minor dings, dents and handling marks. The scope is very good with some light spotting on the front, wear on the rear (probably from a lens cover), and clear optics. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent.
