WWII Nazi G98/40 Bolt Action Rifle with Bayonet
This rifle is similar to the standard K98 rifle in that it uses a K98 style bolt action which had a lower metal stock hanger and it used a two piece stock similar to a British Enfield and was designated the Model 98/40 after the Metal Goods and Weapons Factory, Budapest, Hungary was taken over by the Germans. The top of the receiver is marked "jhv" over "41" for 1941. The left receiver wall is marked "G98/40" and the left side of the receiver and barrel have the German firing proof. Eagle/56 proofs are present and stock has a leather sling. Mismatched bolt assembly, with remaining visible numbers matching including stock. With a bayonet, 10" blade marked "S/172", mismatched sheath with leather frog marked "cgn / 43".

Condition: Very good. The rifle retains scattered traces of original blue finish in the protected areas (heavier amounts on the rear barrel band) with the balance a smooth brown-gray patina. There is some pin point pitting on the bolt. The wood is very good with a few minor gouges and some minor, dings, scratches, and dents (more numerous on the buttstock), along with a large gouge and dent on the forearm. Bayonet is very good with 30% original blue finish with a mixture of smooth gray and dark patina with some minor spotting. Sheath retains 40% original blue finish with the balance a smooth gray patina. Frog is excellent.
