WWII Nazi 98K with Low Turret Sniper Scope
This is a nice example of a WWII German 98K low turret sniper rifle. The "eagle/ 26" waffenamt is stamped on the rear of the barrel, components and the rear sight base. The top of the receiver most likely is marked "ar/ 42", the wartime code for the Mauser-Werkes factory at Borsigwalde in Berlin, but is unable to be checked due to the scope base. The receiver side wall is marked "Mod.98". It has the early war milled barrel bands, milled trigger guard and floor plate and has been fitted with a low scope safety, numbered to match the rifle. It has the inverted "V" front sight and the military tangent rear sight graduated to 2000 meters. The stock and handguard are made of laminated wood and the stock is the early version with a flat buttplate and only the take down bolt through the buttstock. The scope is a very late commercial Zeiss Zielsechs (6X) version marked on the rear of the tube with "Carl Zeiss/Jena/ Zielsechs/ 72371" and has the correct style elevation knob on top with range markings to 700 meters.
BBL: 24 inch round
Stock: laminated
Gauge: 8 mm Mauser
Finish: blue
Grips:
Serial Number: 8223

Professionally restored, with the rifle itself having 80% of the original blued finish with wear and finish loss on the trigger guard, floor plate, barrel bands and exposed section of the barrel, while the top of the receiver, and rear section of the barrel have a stronger blue finish. The scope, rings and bases all have 98% blued finish with excellent optics. The stock and hand guard are very good overall, with the stock having been broken through the wrist and professionally repaired, with minor handling marks overall. The rifle has matching numbers on the various parts, except for the stock. The scope has been professionally numbered to match the rifle. A very nice example as a fill-in for a German rifle collection of a desirable low turret sniper.
