Our Assessment:Certainly one of the most iconic military sidearms of the 20th Century, the P.08 Luger served the German military in both World Wars and variants saw service in other countries. This example is in about Good overall condition. It was produced by Mauser in 1942 and was known as the "Black Widow" because of its dark salt blue finish. The parts are all serial matching with a "byf" code for Mauser on the front toggle, the correct eagle holding a globe with swastika inspection mark on the right side of the barrel and a "eagle / 135" Waffenamt on the left side. The inspection marks on the right side of the receiver are not legible. This pistol will display well, at least from the left side, for those who prefer the "been there, done that" appearance. If the collectors don't take enough notice, it can be used for home protection.

Overall Condition:This handgun retains about 50% of its finish. There is finish remaining on the toggle links, trigger guard and the sides of the frame. There is a plum colored patina forming over the front strap and backstrap. The barrel shows thinning with a somewhat mottled coloring. There is finish loss on the trigger plate and the edges of the frame. There are also a few tiny spots of erosion scattered about.

Mechanics:The action functions correctly. We have not fired this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
