WWII Mauser 41-42 Code Luger Pistol
This is a fairly scarce P.08 41-42 Variation Luger that was manufactured by the Mauser factory. These Luger were produced in early 1941 when Mauser was changing from the four digit chamber dates to the two-digits dates and at the same time Mauser was changing from the wartime "42" code on the toggle to the "byf" code. During this period there was an over-lapping of marking changes. It is estimated by approximately 7000 total were produced in the "n-r" serial number ranges, with this pistol falling in the middle of that block of serial numbers. The top of the chamber are is stamped with "41" the date of manufacture with the toggle stamped with "42" for the Mauser factory code. The right side of the barrel extension is stamped with the double Eagle 655 Waffenamt next the firing proof and the rear section of the barrel is also stamped with the same, albeit smaller proofs, with the underside of the barrel stamped with the serial number and bore diameter. The various parts are all stamped with the last two digits of the serial number. It has an all blued finish with a set of replacement late war type black plastic checkered grips and a single type IV Army type magazine, that has the "FXO/E 37" proofs on the side of the magazine body.
