WWII Luftwaffe Honor Goblet, by Johann Wagner & Sohn, with engraved name of Bomber Pilot ''FELDWEBEL WALTER REICKS AM 23.2.43''. Alpaca silver hammered-finish body shows embossed eagles in combat and Iron Cross 1939. Embossed oakleaf band at bottom and rim embossed with ''FUR BESONDERE LEISTUNG IM LUFTKRIEG''. Stamped markings on the inside bottom of ''Joh. Wagner & Sohn, Feinsilber Alpaca, Auflage''. Approx. 8 3/16'' tall. Condition is near excellent with a pleasing patina to the silver finish, having not been cleaned in some time. There are a couple of very minor dings to the rim of the bottom flange, but the body is dent free. A rare and desirable artifact of WWII, and one of the few German awards that are named to the recipient. Walter Adolf Albert Reicks was born in 1917 and died in 1973. He was a bomber pilot who flew on the Western Front from 1941-42, the Eastern Front 1942-43, the Mediterrainian Front 1943-44, and the homefront 1944-45. Reicks was awarded the German Cross in Gold, Iron Cross 1st and 2nd Class, the Front Flugspange fur Kampfflieger in Silver and Gold, and the Front Flugspange fur Zerstorer in Gold mit Anhanger. He flew hundreds of missions, and his career is worthy of further research. Est.: $2,500-$3,500.(John Ackerman collection)
