WWII Luftwaffe 88mm Flak Binoculars
Fully functioning 10x80 binoculars used for the famous 88mm flak gun for the German army. The 88mm flak gun was one of the most well recognized artillery pieces used by the German army and caused many Allied aircraft casualties. The binoculars were used to detect aircraft and guiding the larger 4m scopes, searchlights, and cannons to their target in and around German occupied cities. Later production models can be distinguished by the tan color and 3 letter company markings. Markings on the right side are labeled: D.F. (double scoped), beh (E. Leitz, Wetzlar) for the manufacturer, serial number 12635, light blue cross for using grease number 1442, and a red X for the third pattern reticle. Under the right eye piece there is a box used to hold a light for better view in darker conditions. The top right knob is used for adjusting the width of the eye pieces while the left was used to adjust the brightness. The left knob is labeled clockwise: Klar, dunkel, mittel, hell. Each meaning: clear, dark, medium, and bright respectively. Each eye piece can be turned for better focusing. Padding around the eye pieces are a little stiff and dirty. Eye piece lens has no scratches but could be cleaned. Left eye piece is a little harder to adjust. All markings are clear and have the original colors. Paint is worn around the surface. Glare shields have slight rust patches on the surface. Main lens has only a few dirt marks but have no scratches. Viewing quality is good. Brought back from vet. Overall good condition.
