This is an original World War II Japanese Arisaka Type 44 carbine in 6.5x50mm caliber. Near mint (99% of bluing). This is a one of the first or early second variations serial number 38392 from the Kokura Arsenal. The rifle comes with a copy of the original document filled out by Leinen for mailing this home. This was collected by Master Sgt. Gordon "Bill" Leinen of the 41st Division, 163rd Regiment Montana Infantry. This firearm was removed by him from the Hiro, Japan Armory in early September, 1945. The carbine was never used and sealed with Cosmoline. When processing items for troops to bring back Leinen was in charge of removing the mum on the rifles, this Imperial Japanese Chrysanthemum, over the kanji markings for Type "44" is intact. The rifle is in near mint condition showing only minor handling dings from being passed through the family. The two very rare original cleaning rods are in the butt stock. This was made in the 44th year of the Meiji period, hence "Type 44". 14 inch triangular spiked bayonet folding. One of the finest examples on the market. Comes
