WWII Imperial German Lion Heidelberg Mini Sword
Featured in this lot is this WWII Imperial German lion head Heidelberg miniature sword or salesman sample. The sword features a wonderfully and professionally crafted steel and pewter construction that shows a single edge straight blade with a guard and shows a fuller down the length of the blade. The blade is marked on the blade face as follows: Heidelberg. Heidelberg’s connection to swords lies primarily in its historical role in academic fencing (Mensur), where students participated in ritualized duels using specialized swords, which became symbolic of student fraternity life and personal honor. The condition of this miniature sword replica is good with no obvious signs of damage to the sword and the tassel attached to the handle showing some fraying to the cord and bending to the knob that holds it in place but otherwise shows a good overall condition. The measurements of this sword is 7 7/8" x 1 3/4" x 3/8". The collective weight of this miniature sword is 39.4g.
